Several folks have contacted us to say this trailer was built for and featured in the 1940 movie "The Egg And I" starring Fred McMurry and Claudette Collbier. Now we're trying to find out WHERE it is today, and if anybody knows anything about it's construction, etc. It was last seen in Central California some 8 or 9 years ago. AND, if anybody out there has a copy of the movie and could get us a few pics of the trailer from it, that'd be GREAT! Contact us! We'd LOVE to see this thing restored and pulled to a bunch of Teardrop Gatherings and Vintage Trailer events, wouldn't you? Send any info to T&T at info@teardrops.net |

This teardrop was found abandoned in a field outside Santa Fe, NM. The trailer had been left sitting with the doors off and laying in the dirt, along with the cabinet doors. All wood, mostly mahogany, with some old style rear fenders, possibly truck. The covering appears to be fabric over a masonite skin. The kitchen is like none other - the hatch opens upward and then two doors open outward with drawers and doors contained in each. There is a stainless steel sink and a stainless steel ice box, both built in. The interior features three drawers at the foot of the bed, storage compartments in the floor, a skylight/vent in the roof, a small window vent in the front and a small window vent on the right side. Chassis is steel. A lot of restoration has been done to date, first to preserve it and second to not disturb it's basic original integity. It is currently (11-2001) on display at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After the exhibit, more restoration is planned, along with a return to many happy years of camping. Send Information on this teardrop's manufacture to: |

The body framework is steel U-channel, it appears that the hatch lid was originally hung on automotive-type trunk hinges, the wood wall (galley-to-cabin) and tongue-n-groove wood floor are all in good shape, and the tail-light trim bezels say "Oldsmobile" (no info yet on axle & suspension). Please contact us or Jim Bailey if you have any clues! Send Information on this teardrop's manufacture to: |
